Game freezes system on exit.

This is a repost from the beta forums, for an issue that has not yet been resolved.

The game totally locks up my system when I try to exit. Everything stops responding, I can't bring up task manager, and must hard reboot my system. Based on the old post for this it looks like all affected users are on Windows XP.

I first reported this issue 4 months ago during beta, and have brought it up several times since. It is completely unacceptable to have users having to hard reboot every time they play your game. Something this bad should never have gotten past beta.

You have no idea the mess you are making of windows. I had a similar problem, not with the game, that required multiple had reboots per day. It took about 4 month for my OS to commit suicide. Ended up wiping the C drive, and re installing windows. I know a lot of times when I exit and I am on the desk top and then I get a window pop up that says defiance is not responding. I go to task manager and the Defiance client is not in the task list, but it IS in the processes list. Checking how much memory its using will usually show it has a massive memory leak issue which cause it to lock up. Really severe cases could lock up your system. The really odd thing is that it only happens occasionally.

Oh I know exactly what a problem this is causing my OS, I've already got some file corruption and will eventually need to reinstall my OS because of this game. The question is, after I reinstall my OS will I continue to play, despite this bug and corrupt my system again? The answer is no, I will not.

I only have two questions at this point, will this problem ever get addressed, and if not can I get a refund on the DLC packs that I've already paid for, and won't get to play.

My game also freezes on exit, though I've been bypassing the freeze by ctrl-alt-delete and killing Defiance without even trying to exit normally.

Ongoing since launch. Needs fix.

i have the same problem. i logout then use windows key to get to desktop and click on its icon on taskbar to end game. i never exit from in game. this problem really sucks and should be addressed before they great anymore fluff for this game.

There are actually some threads on the same issue. It still persists even during gameplay. To avoid major issues with your Windows OS and, most importantly, to avoid creating bad-sectors on your hd, until the issue has a solution I suggest that you play in Window mode (not fullscreen - can change on settings) and then set it to full window so it at least looks like a fullscreen. This will help you access your task manager and close the window instead of hard reseting the computer.

At first I believed it was related to the anti-virus, but after putting the anti-virus on game-mode (Bitdefender) it improves but it doesn't stop. So far I have noticed that it happens every time that there is a server timeout. It seems that the UI can't clean up and then crashes. It might be related to exploits being used by other players (but this doesn't explain when it freezes and you are alone).

I have same issue, already submited a ticket and soluctions didnt fix it...
I always ctrl alt del to close the game, problem solved.

Same issue here on a 64Bit Windows 7 machine.
I think since I started playing I have managed to successfully exit twice.. every other time, I hit exit and the computer hard locks.

I have been fighting with their support for a while now and after placing a screencast of how the game was crashing the response I got was: Uninstall your game completely including the deletion of the game folders, download it again and install it.

I got so frustrated with their answer that, for a last attempt, I have asked to be escalated to a game developer or a technical support because that answer for me is the same as: "Windows is broken -> Format PC".

Ridiculous! How they want for players to refer other gamers to the game if they keep treating the current issues as a joke.

As soon as I get a response I will add it here.
