I don't know if you're trolling. I personally don't care. You make a valid point that the beta is turning off some people. I don't believe it has anything to do with the quality of the beta to be honest. As someone who has beta tested all sorts of titles across multiple platforms, I've seen this sort of thing before. The problem is that most console gamers are used to a console environment. It is true that they are excited and mayhaps purchased a preorder because it is giving them access to the game early. The reality is it is a beta. What does that mean? It's simple.
A beta is crafted at a stage where the majority of the games options are present but they need to be both tuned and fixed. Something may be present but not completely reviewed. That is where the community comes in. When a title is large scale and there is either a lack of manpower internally to test or a lack of environmental variables, you turn to a beta. It can be used as a general focus test (getting observations of how it "feels" from the community) to downright observations on major issues within the environment.
Not only is a beta NOT the finished version of a game, but the vast majority of the time it was outright constructed MONTHS ago while the game pushed on. Many of these issues are more than likely fixed. Some of them may even be completely pulled out and revamped. The information looked at, however, is still useful.
I think you are right that many people will be turned off by this beta. This is not because the beta isn't doing what it is meant to. It is, quite simply, because the "beta testers" are not doing what THEY are meant to.
And that is too bad. There's nothing to change their mind. It is work. Plain and simple. It is work when many of us just want to play a game. For me, it double sucks because I do this for a living. And I still participate because the reality is for a great game to work when a Beta is in the mix, people participating and giving feedback is crucial.
Fortunately there are some good people on the forums here helping others and I applaud you.
I do not blame you for not enjoying the beta. I wouldn't however assume you will dislike the game. Read the reviews when it comes out and apply what you feel now.
