    This is from http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/connected

Xbox One will deliver new benefits for gamers that are only possible with a system designed from the ground up to be ready and connected. Here are just a few examples:

A new generation of games with power from the cloud: Because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you’re not playing.

Not everyone has Broadband connection but having persistent world that evolve when you aren't playing is very intriguing indeed.

Your Xbox One is always ready: Xbox One is designed to run in a low-powered, connected state. This means your system, games and apps are always current and ready to play—no more waiting for updates.

Ok fast start up and very low load times that's a bonus.

Stay connected to your friends: Never miss an opportunity to play games with your friends or to catch up with family on Skype. Use Skype in Snap mode to chat while you play games or watch TV. Or enjoy group video Skype calls with people around the world, all from the comfort of your living room.

Skype calls are iffy with me here. But i do get it. Video phone anyone? Using your big screen T.V.

Access your entire games library from any Xbox One—no discs required: After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud. So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend’s house, you can play your games.

Not a bad idea. If i have a game saved to the cloud and i'm at a buddy's house i can play my game from his console without having to bring my game along.

Buy the way you want—disc or digital—on the same day: You’ll be able to buy disc-based games at traditional retailers or online through Xbox Live, on day of release.

Pc Has been doing this for several Years now it's called Steam. I dunno about you but having a digital copy is ok. But i'm the type of person who likes physical copies most of the time. But If i really wanted to get the game badly i no longer have to wait in line at midnight at a store that sells games. Which is a plus.

    Networking Technologies

A range of advanced technologies will make these scenarios possible, including:

Superior wireless performance and coverage throughout the home: Xbox One is equipped with a gigabit Ethernet port and 802.11n wireless. With 802.11n, Xbox One can use the 5GHz wireless band which eliminates considerable interference from other devices in the home, such as cordless phones, Bluetooth devices and microwaves. Xbox One uses two wireless antennas, versus one in Xbox 360. This provides dramatically better coverage and sustained performance, which means faster internet speeds in more areas of your home.

Faster connection to a world of smart devices: With Wi-Fi Direct, Xbox One can speak directly to smart wireless devices and connect to them through the cloud. This means your smartphone or tablet will interact with Xbox One seamlessly.

Future proofed with power from the cloud: Microsoft has created a global network of more than 300,000 Xbox Live and Windows Azure servers, to help creators realize their visions of what is possible with a connected system.

Built in Wifi, Wireless N, Tablet and cellphone interactions with games, a ton of servers so far nothing too bad about this.

    Networking Requirements

To ensure Xbox One works optimally and can offer the experiences described above, it is designed with the following networking requirements:

For an optimal experience, we recommend a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps. (For reference, the average global internet connection speed as measured recently by Akamai was 2.9 Mbps). In areas where an Ethernet connection is not available, you can connect using mobile broadband.

While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection.

No big deal if you require a connection to play a game.

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

This point is the major deal breaker for most gamers and people not of first world countries. The specific part is the offline at a different console. Which is only 1 hour of playtime then nothing. My biggest thing is like everyone else if the internet goes out i can't play my games. Now if the power went out how can you use anything electronic if you don't have a power generator? Most of my electronic things don't use batteries. Just saying.

At Xbox, we’ve always believed in a connected world of games and entertainment. With Xbox One, we are planning for a connected future. We can’t wait to show you what’s to come

Get rid of the have to connect every 24 hours and you will have quite a few people buying it on day one. Myself i'm going to wait for several months before making my decision.

Not like you could take your game to your friends house anyway, you would have to pay a fee to play it xD. Funny thing though, Most of this reminds me of PS4 really. the whole persistent world? Yea MMO's have been doing that forever, has nothing to do with X1. That is there excuse to rake in the sheep.

Only if your not using your Login. The persistent world would be much more than the current state of MMO's. Defiance is persistent but in a sense not really.

Yes we get new content weekly.(if you can really call collecting data recorders and the occasional story line based quest content.) I'm looking at the much bigger picture. The idea of having the driver avatar from Forza 5. Where what ever you have done while playing, your driver learns and remembers. Then another player is driving vs your Avatar (while you are offline.) it will learn at a slower curve without you being at the helm. So eventually your Driving avatar becomes a pretty mean driving machine.

Could you imagine an FPS with this kind of mechanic? Where it learns how you play and while you are offline it still learns even more.

    Just a thought to ponder.

Eve Online did the persistent MMO thing long b4 this. The idea is cool, but it has always been done, its nothing new. Just to consoles. and PS4 and X1 are both getting the same features. Oh, and btw, a FPS with that kind of mechanic? It's actually called Destiny, and they are partnered with Sony. ;]

Stats, and ghost data. We've already got this. Why the heck would I want an FPS to have an A.I. try to represent my own skills. In a shooter you can change your idea in a blink of a second.

Yay, a racing game with more accurate recording for ghost data. What's new there? They've been doing that every year they can.

MMO's aren't becoming more persistent. We can't push that any further than developers can put out content. What next generation is aiming for is seamless play. A world that seems like it's a single shard.

I'm more thinking the new persistent world like this.

Take Destructible mechanics like blowing up a building. Add that to an MMO.

Now say we have said building fully intact at the release of the game. Several days or weeks down the road and that nice looking building is nothing more than a skeleton and rubble. Thanks to people destroying things because they are there.
Further along we have a group of people decide to pick that same building and rebuild it into a Base or Outpost. Whatever floats your boat.

People fight over the base / outpost. It gets damaged and repaired. That's type of persistent i'm talking about.
Character data is evolving is one thing. Overall world persistent change is another.

Oh and Destiny isn't partnered with Sony i'll refer you to this. http://i.imgur.com/ZWK5YzZ.png
    And this http://www.destinythegame.com/media

They are partnered with Activision as the publisher and it will also be release for the xbone on the same day.
