I suspect that by now Trion, or at least some people at Trion, regrets selling the season passes. Had I bought one I'd be sorely tempted to ask Steam for a refund on general principles. Promising delivery and failing to deliver deserves some penalty, or at least Trion should be promising more for those season pass holders willing to wait.

But it's not a lot of money, and if is a lot to someone then my suggestion is that they shouldn't be using their meager funds to purchase something like that in the first place. But that doesn't excuse Trion for failing to live up to their own hype.

Too soon to tell if I'll regret it or not, but I got it through the Steam offer anyways so I didn't have to pay full price. I'll reserve any judgement until the DLCs actually release. While I'm a bit disappointed that it will take until the end of July to see the first one when they've been teasing us with info for a while now, I can be patient, especially if they can manage to eliminate most of the bugs.

One of my biggest concerns about the Season Pass is that DLCs after this one might be rushed to make the year deadline, and as a result they get reduced features or are reduced to weapons or item packs with no new content. Still, that all remains to be seen.

Buying bits in Defiance only gives you vanity and connivence items. Other than boosts, you can spend $0 and progress as much as someone who has spent $100. Now that Ive sounded like a satisfied costumer, Id like to say that if they screw me out of meaningful content, I will do whatever I can to seek reparations. Well, whatever I can with a reasonable effort.

Not true. This game isn't Free to Play. It's Buy to Play. If you don't buy the box, you cannot play, so where does the 'free' come into that equation?

You may not have been doing it right, but DC as a free player is hardly restrictive. Case in point:

You get ALL the starting costumes to chose from. All the starting powers to pick from. All the storylines on both sides; heroes and villians. There is no part of the leveling process that is restricted.. all cutscences, voice acting, everything. Everything can be gotten off the Auction house there anyways. Joining a guild gets you even more stuff as a F2P. It's okay if you didn't like it, but you're so far offbase here it's not funny.

Defiance doesn't give you everything. You had to pay $60 at launch. That means you.. ready?.. PAID for it. There was no 'free' option. Now, most of us (probably 80%) finished this game in that first month. The rest are mostly done, just didn't cap EGO which isn't content; that's called 'grinding'.

Now you don't ever have to pay another nickel to play this game after that $60. But you certainly aren't going to get all the same good stuff the DLC people get so you do have to pay more money regardless.

I'm sorry, but leveling up different weapons doesn't really equate to content when what you're doing to level them up is the exact same thing environment-wise.

I regret it only in that I'm not sure I'll still be playing this game come, say, DLC #3 or so. It's not the robust game I thought it would be, but some of that is my own fault for assuming what it would be rather than accepting what it actually is. To be honest, I'm not really even looking forward to the DLC in July. I REALLY wanted to see a new outdoor area. I do enjoy playing Defiance (except when I get booted at the end of an Arkfall or Siege like last night). And I appreciate the level of detail the environment has. But you can only drive down the same road so many times before longing for a new journey. Maybe I missed something about a new area. Maybe they haven't announced it yet. But with the way Trion is going as far as timelines go, I think the DLCs will easily push into next year and by that time there are a multitude of new MMOFPS that will be coming out that look to push the boundary on realism. That's what Moya and me think about it, anyway.

What is DLC? What constitutes DLC? What would a judge/arbitrator think 'reasonable' DLC is?

So Trion promised and is legally bound to give you five DLCs.

DLC #1: "Hey guys! Here is a new area, new cars, 8 new mobs, new dungeon, cash shop items, enjoy!"

DLC #2: "Hey guys! Here is some new cars skins (over the old cars), 5 new mobs, cash shop items, enjoy!"

DLC #3: "Hey guys! Here is some new reskins again, 3 new mobs, one 'adventure' event, and some more cash shop items, enjoy!"

DLC#4-5: "Hey guys! Game is now F2P, grats! Here is some new reskins, a 'Nightmare' dungeon (rehash of launch dungeon), some more cash shop items, enjoy!"

    Contract met.

It doesn't spell out WHAT is in the DLC, just that they have to provide you with DLC. That's why blind DLC buying is weetodded, unlike Lifetime subs, where as long as you play you get it all free, no matter what it is and how long they keep the game going.
That's the exact point I was making.

Until it comes out or we're shafted on DLC2 (As the content in DLC1 seems adequate) then I most certainly will regrest supporting a company that would do that and calling it "DLC" content.

What I am truly waiting for it Trion to give us the Rim Swirly of giving us access to the Casthian but charging us to take advantage of it on our current characters. It will force a restart and re-roll to play all the crap content again in order to get a "free" Casthian.

I will be livid and be done with them and the game on principle alone.

No. I have enough patience to wait. Otherwise, I am indeed enjoying the game.

You are wrong. Getting to lvl 30 is free. Almost all end game content requires purchasing individual dlc. Things in the auction house cost in the $200,000+ range. If you do not pay the subscription fee, you can only carry $2000 cash at once. No lvl 30 item is that cheap. You also have to purchase replay tickets to redo end game missions. Even with the subscription fee, you are only allotted 250 replay tickets, which isnt much at all. If you quit paying the subscription fee, it reverts back to the free content and all dlc items and forfeited. Also, without the subscription fee you are limited to 2 characters and have access to only 4 of the 8 powers. All basic costumes items are available at character creation, but the meaningful gear and best styles require dlc.

I realize their billing and access models have changed a lot over the games lifetime, but that is the current state of the game. I stopped playing when Defiance came out, but from roughly February to April, that was the model they were using.

Not really, I enjoy the game and don't have to worry about a monthly subscription. I just hope the later DLC's aren't rushed and half a**ed due to running out of time due to the next season starting. They aren't leaving themselves a whole lot of time. I got it with my Steam pre-order the day before launch, so I think I only paid like $20. I can spend that in one night at a bar pretty easy, the game will bring me many more hours of enjoyment and entertainment.
