as for the number of players online, while they show some different numbers, ALL reports on accounts an online activity indicate psn has more than TWICE as many online users, probably because 1: it costs nothing additional, and 2: because it is sold and plays in more countries since it is not as region restricted.
back on the topic of failing consoles.. with an 87% failure rate (usually RRoD) the xbox was pure crap. it was enough of an issue that several people opened shops to make money just on repairing the 360.. reading through xbox magizine articles at that time, they casually mention how many xbox's they had to swap out that month and then go back to the story like nothing happened.. for a consumer it is a pretty big deal (unless you took it to walmart. and while you get a fast turn around replacement from them, even if you don't have a receipt....somewhere down the road that is a loss of $$, and gets tacked on to other prices).
the 3 year warranty did not happen until a COUPLE years after the fact.. after having cost players and retailers alot of time and money, not to mention costing several people their homes and some lives due to the thing catching fire!..
point is.. the console was soo poorly made, and there is no excuse for a product to need supplemental warranty programs, it's just a sign that they have a poor expectation in terms of durability. (ps3 has a failure rate of .05%... WELL below standards). I am honestly surprised the product, even in it's current state, was legally allowed on the market... as it does not meet many regulations and criteria for safety and consumer standards.
people (the 13-46% that haven't had the console die on them) will argue this until they are blue in the face, doing all they can to defend what, in terms of reliability, is a poorly made product.
