I will unload a whole clip into someone's backside to only have them turn around and shoot me once right in the head.
Where am I going with this? Well the cod games use a heavy lag compensation system to help people with garbage Internet connections compete against those with an awesome Internet connection. Since this a server game and not a peer to peer game line 99% of Xbox live games, are these people having issues the ones who are using a wifi connection across two floors while their dad is watching your tube, mom checking Facebook and their sister using iTunes to listen to justice beaver?
I have a feeling this may be the case. If so that is awesome because this game is basically saying " hay quit stealing Internet from your neighbor". Sorry I might be a little annoyed with the peer to peer mentality that M$ has forced on us xbox live users.
I never had any lag problems till black ops 2, and I, like you, have to fire an entire clip into people and most of the time end up getting turned on and dying. I started playing hardcore to avoid this ****. Im having little, to absolutely no issue with lag on defiance after they fixed the day one servers. I usually do really well on PvP, except when I joined this one match and literally everyone was invisible to me lol.

Yes, I mean we are playing other MMO's that are on well established servers and not under a stress test.

But didn't you blame this entire thread on peoples connections and not the fact that we're playing on hamster powered servers? (kidding ofc)

I don't think you understand how these things actually work.

To play an MMO, 5mb d/l and 1m/b upload is actually an overkill for the tiny packets that are sent to and recieved by players. The problem is the delay on the delivery of these packets from the server, when there is a delay, there will be lag. This is easily the case in a stress test scenario as what they are doing is reducing the number of servers (or shards) in order to see how each server is able to deal with large numbers of users.

Of course the cause of lag for a player can be on their end, but will only affect their own gameplay. However, if the lag a player is experiencing is only for one specific game or service, and a large number of players are reporting the same lag, the likely cause is the server and not the players connections.

When the servers go live on the 2nd, we can expect more servers will be used, with much better player to server allocation, meaning players will be spread more evenly between shards resulting in less stress on each server and less overall lag.

Although, expect extreme lag, disconnections, server reboots and maintenance on day 1.

    /thread.

Nope, 5mb down and 1mb up is not overkill for an mmo. Because you are not reaching those actual speeds ever. In reality you are getting a minimal 300kb/sec down and maybe 15-30kb/sec up on a 5mb connection on a good non-busy area.

Most MMO's take about 75kb/sec down, and the upload is usually very minimal.

In my congested area I live where I can't get fiber so i have to deal with the local cable company I run 6mb with 364kb/sec up, and on a good day I can see 800kb/sec down on a download sustained, or a max upload of 99kb/sec. It changes when a lot of local users start using the pipe, and I have experienced day's where I can barely do 50kb/sec making the internet worthless.

But that's just internet speed we are talking about here. It's not the main issue I want to address here.
Its the router configurations most you people have. I wouldn't be surprised if most of you are running on stock modems from you providers. Nothing is optimized or routed for online gaming, and even than I know providers on their end close up ports preventing certain services to run correctly etc.

So before you tell me you have 1000mb down and 150mb up, Why don't you explain to me how you have setup your router/modem? Cause that's what matters 9 times out of ten times.

Actually, I'm not really having any connection issues. I've had some at certain points during the day, but for the most part the game runs fine for me. The server does have its issues at times though, I'm sure of it. I have had my character be completely desync'd.

(Running around shooting stuff but the enemies think I'm 10 miles away, spawning my vehicle 10 miles away, etc.)

Anyway, like I said - I'm sure that even players with slower connections will find that when the server issues are sorted I think the game will run better for them.

Personally, my Xbox is set as the DMZ Host on my router - I play Dark Souls which requires complete port forwarding for optimal results. Ethernet straight from Router to Xbox, no bridge bs going on here, lmao. So my router is fully optimized for my Xbox. The problem I've had with this game seems to only be at certain times during the day, and funnily enough, the problems occur for me and everyone in my party simultaneously.

Like I said before though, it's a stress test and is expected.

Like the initial post said "MAYBE" it's the connection I never said it definitely was. Why I think is probably more right on is the part that was said about router configuration. Sure some of you have port forwarded andade the Xbox Dmz, but there is a lot of 13-16 y/o timmies who haven't and some of the issue could be that. Don't get me wrong I'm sure a large part of it is the stress test going on that's whats supposed to happen this weekend. I just have seen so many cancel thier preorders cause of the lag on Friday and various other days that have lag spikes. This working model we have is no where near the model we are getting for game. It has to be hard for trion with all the certifying they had to jump through to get onto Xbox live (4 months of certification). So cut them some slack. How awesome can this game be with a tv show to enhance the games story. That's so cool.. Oh wait, if your one of those cod fanboys who think quick scoping is an uberl337l3gi7 skill then you probably are bashing this game. But is that a bad thing since I won't have to play this game with you in it?
