I think the reasoning was they don't want us to get "sieged out." They're trying to retain its entertainment value by not overstimulating players with it. I'm sure the siege mechanics will not be going anywhere permanently. I'll bet we will see them again once the Volge are introduced into the game with the next DLC.
Sadly, I think removing sieges from the game is going to sap content from an already shallow pool. There really isn't a whole lot to do in the game, and the last thing Trion should be doing is removing content. I get the reasoning they are using, but it's not good for keeping people active. The focus should be on providing more options and things to choose from, not removing content because it doesn't align with some schedule or story line.

Now playing games that actually have PvP.
Oh, sorry. Common sense and all. I will edit my post to:
NOOOOOOO this can't be!?!?!?!?! Why Trion! Why did you take away the only thing that exists in this game! It's not like you gave it to us earlier than expected with the volge! You told us we had to wait for the DLC (that was one thing on the DLC inclusion list was sieges). Then you jekkers GAVE it to us early and now you took it away! Why!?!?! OMFG WHY!?!?!?!
Is that better?
As long as they make it a pretty seamless integration with the replacement content otherwise they really are going to find players going to do somethign else. Only so many times even the most dedicated players can grind over and over again I helped someone through all their missions which someone did for me.. I could do it again but I had often run into many of the missions doing contracts. Just time to play something else for a while and I hope for defiance they bring in the volge or whatever it will be asap so they don't lose more players it has been pretty quiet in there lately

We could have had any number of enemy types to replace the zeds and play Sieges with. Raiders, Dark matter, Mutants, etc, etc. I really don't think it's a good idea to remove "the one fun thing" to do in Defiance after only two weeks, and then have it go on a Hiatus for months. Gamers don't have that kind of patience, hell, most modern games can be completed in a single play session. CoD: Black Ops 2, 6 hour campaing, Gears 3, 8 hours, BF3 6 hours, and Defiance's main story took me a single afternoon, and, well, you get the point. Give a kid Defiance, and ask him to wait a 4-6 weeks to play the only fun thing in the game again? He's not going to be there to play it again in 4-6 weeks.

See, it's already happening.
"That sucks. They were the only fun thing for me to do until dlc now that I have new games to play."
"I got great time and use out of it but it does not have any further major attraction."

In a game that lacks content, the constant removal of what little there is seems a bit weird. On the other hand the other part of the company which actually likes their consumer base releases tons of content completely free via Rift. I think Trion may be bipolar and or being held hostage by Corporate Commander.

Good points. I think that the mechanics of Volge sieges will be different. Look at the e3 vids, there is some % bar in the lower right part of the screen. There are some weird floating things with lightning looking beams over the spots you are suppose to capture. The Volge are shooting back. Completely different rewrite of sieges is what I'm expecting; similar but different.
Maybe it's only going down for them to rewrite the badguys and actually add mutants or dark matter or whatever. They said they are removing it, but they didn't say for how long. Agreed, a month is a long time to wait... but most of the complaining will be done during the hiatus. When they come back, many will forget about the wait and move on to complaining about other things.
Oh, @Shada: This is gamebreaking!!!! Completely unplayable!!!
sorry, used up all my facetiousness in my previous post.
Huh, they had deleted the thread for a moment there... Guess they changed their mind? I'm going to go check the OP, see if they edited it or something.
Edit: "Yup, mod removed the thread, and edited my post, leaving only a small portion of it. Figures... Gotta love censorship! Oh yes supreme master Trion, sway my words to your will at once! God forbid they have to hear any criticism. Ohhhh noe."
