Dont know if its a marketing trick or not... but i have never seen one that didn't reach al 3 before the game came out.
Maybe they lowered the X persons needed to unlock the nexst stages.

But to bad.. i already made my order a few days for it came to steam at trion it self.
And to lazy to cancel

Maybe, but I also think that many people were holding back until it at least got through the first tier, after all why take the chance on buying it if you don't even know for sure if you'd get the first tier goodies? Now that the first tier is unlocked they are certain to get those bonuses that make it more worthwhile for them, IMO.

Ya Steam Preorder went pretty good "over night". Well at least from EU PoV.
I checked Steam Preorder around 0AM last Time and it was at 28% and now its 8AM with 49%.
You NA Guys must have been really busy ordering over the evening.

I'm not singling you out because I've seen this a lot, but I honestly don't understand this line of thinking. Even before tier 1 was unlocked there were very few reasons to not order from Steam. You get everything that all the other retailers provide and a *chance* to receive more. Even if it didn't play out, that chance is still more than the other retailers could offer.

Now if someone doesn't like Steam as a service, wanted a physical copy of the game, or if they are really excited about a different retailer's exclusive weapon, then it's a different story and I can understand the hesitation.

to you guys i was able to find a reliable source for all the codes. fortunately for me i saw yet another defiance commercial one night while watching continuum and thought, 'u know what? im gna scour the net for those codes again and see what the hell they are.' the guys at gamestop thot they were for extra tidbits about the show. i figured they werent but didnt know how theyd relate to the game. thanks to all of u, i figured it out and was able to catch up in no time. i just want to tip my hat to all of u and bow in thanks and honor. u guys worked harder than most ppl i know who actually work. u guys did better than them too. i would be honored to have any number of u in my clan on the ps3. we are the Gallifreyan Alchemists and my username is either Inunic or Margolis VonSandarovich. i say either bcuz for some reason it displays both instead of our chosen name. but if u add either one then it just basically adds me as a friend. so yeah, if ur on PS3 and want to be in a clan about 8 members strong already at launch then let me know. message me, add me, whatever. ooohhh thats something i should have suggested during beta, a mail system other than the one the console uses. so its still in game. damn.... maybe they will still have a feedback option at launch for more patches in the future..... oh well. thanks comrades

Morning guys, still on the hunt? I checked the walmart site for their digital deluxe version and guess what?? a code was displayed in the picture, 8mklul an old code we already have.....guess it was too much to ask that they have a new code, lol.

Actually. I'm not one of them, I already have my preorder from another retailer, I was merely commenting on how some others look at it and how I expected faster progress now. But the reasoning isn't too hard to understand.

First (and foremost for many IMO), many people like to feel that they aren't just getting an equal deal, but a better deal. So getting a few more items plays into that.
Second, there are many people that just don't like Steam and use it begrudgingly and would prefer another service unless they got something more out of Steam's offer.
Third, there are people that figure all else being equal why not get it directly from the source Trion, so they get more of the money? Once it's no longer equal though...
Fourth, there are people that might be torn by the other retailer exclusive items until they get what they feel is a better offer.
Fifth, if it didn't reach the first tier there are others that already had placed a preorder that might have kept the original one, but instead canceled the first preorder to move it to Steam where they get what they feel is a better offer.
Sixth, once it reaches the first tier it helps to reassure other potential customers that there is interest in the game and makes them feel more comfortable about the purchase.

Granted your points are still valid, but who ever said that consumers were always (or even often) rational in their choices? Shopping behavior is far more often about psychology than logic.
BTW Steam is now 60% of the way through Tier 2 as I type this. (Insert joke about the preorders "picking up steam [rimshot]" here.)
