What's up with the phrase 'hard earned money'?

Some people hate their jobs.
Some people break their backs at work.
Some people actually have hard jobs hard on the mind, body and sometimes their spirit and dream crushing.

So the term hard earned money fits.

Think about it 60$ to some people is more then a single days pay....

I know lots of people who work at jobs they enjoy. I also know many who don't enjoy their job. Some jobs are hard. Some jobs are easy. Money is just money. The money doesn't know or care if you had fun earning it or if you were miserable while earning it.

What's wrong with saying, "Trion is never getting anymore of my money" as opposed to saying, "Trion is never getting anymore of my hard earned money"?

Most people hate their jobs, a lot of people are on minimum wage, some are desperate and those unfortunate enough to be on JSA (UK slave labour) are borderline forced to do work in the most undignified conditions by their governments.

They didnt have fun earning that money.

Because if person A earns £100,000 per year, sitting behind a desk with his feet up, £40 is nothing. Person B earns £9,000 per year doing manual labour 40 hours a week. Spending £40 on a video game is a tough decision. When you spend £40 of 'hard earned' money, on something that turns out to be a waste, it means a hell of a lot more. And is worth emphasising.

I have a job where a pick up 60+ tons ( not lying ) worth of weight. I feel I have hard earned money. But will I complain about spending it on video games. Heck no! It's my hobby. Plus it's cheaper then being an alcoholic.

i personally don't use the term, "hard earned money", because it insinuates that you did more work than what you're getting paid. if your job has a pay scale based off of work output, would it still be "hard" earned? you're producing as much as is expected of you, right?

my day job lasts from 8-19 hours on any given day. and then for weeks at a time when i am out doing training. it isn't "hard earned money", because my specific job requires a level of physical and mental strain that isn't involved in your "average" day job.

minimum wage jobs were designed for people at the entry level of the employment force. if you find yourself being stuck at minimum wage, sorry for your current state. however, it is YOU that needs to take the extra time to get things accomplished to further better yourself, and end up with a job that gives you the comfortable life. one thing i have been taught about exiting the military is the job you secure will be only as good as the effort you put in to finding it. life will throw a wrench or five in to your ambitions. that is a fact.

i have to keep learning this lesson, myself. it is freakin tough. i get over it and continue to move.

there is no such thing as hard money. only hard work, and the amount of effort you put in to achieving a decent return.

True, and it's what I do, I think before buying, I get information, I never pre-order, I don't buy stuf because it seems good but because I know I will enjoy it, I do that because I earn my money and I don't want to waste it.
So when I see all this ppl whining about their "hard earned money" I just laught at them, it's their own fault if they spend their "hard earned money" in stupid video games that they know nothing about.

If you really earned your money the hard way you will not spend it just like that and if you spend "hard earned money" on something that turns out to be a waste, you're just an idiot.

I see it in post after post, no one complains that things cost to much. They say, 'It take's too much of my hard earned money. Is it a quote from a movie or something?

I don't have any 'hard earned money'. When I was working, I worked at what I loved to do AND I got paid for it! Yep, I earned my pay but it wasn't hard earned. Now that I'm retired, it would even more silly to refer to the money I spend on Defiance as 'hard earned'.

Can we ditch the theatrics?

I have a well paying job which is stressful but purely mental work, and $60 (or in my case $120ish for Deluxe and Season's Pass) is not going to affect me one way or the others.

My money is still hard earned because, like many, I have had many a job where I totally hated it, was under paid, and under appreciated. I endured all that to finally get to a point in life where I do not have to ever worry about money again..providing the IRS does not figure out I am not a Democrat.

Now that that is out of the way, I also understand the value of a buck, and when I spend it I expect equal value in return. When I spent that money, it was on the assumption that the product to be released was going to be market ready (the game is still not quite market ready having some rather large issues and really light on content) and that the DLC would not be held hostage because they needed all their resources to fix the game they released which still needed 2+ months of beta testing
