    Xbox has officially backpedaled!

    http://www.gamespot.com/news/microso...opslot%3bSlot2

Honestly that was a duh I couldn't imagine then treating their customers bad like a 'certain company we all know' would til it came out.

My issue is paying an extra 100 dollars for a Kenect I never wanted worth it? Should I reward them for forcing me to buy it to obtain their system? I am leaning no because the only game I'd be really missing out is Halo.
I am sure you guys would not care and that is fantastic but for me I will have to think long and hard. But least anyone who buys that system aren't a bunch of suckers. Xbox owners can again be proud of their purchase.

Thank god.... wish we could...*cough* =)

The thing that gets me is that they said "due to consumer reaction." I don't believe that. I believe it is because they know they got slammed by ps4. The controversy about the used games and selling your old games has been going on for months. Sounds like Xbox just didn't care and was expecting Sony to be the same way. Trying to say that consumer reaction led to the decision was a cop out. That reaction has been going around the web for a while. Either micro$oft doesn't really listen to the market or they just try to do whatever until someone like Sony stomps all over them. I may be pro ps4, but a lot of my Xbox 360 friends have already went out and preordered the ps4. The damage is done and being reactive is not as good as being proactive.

I think the retailers probably had more influence than consumers (retailers probably count as consumers to Microsoft, thinking about it).

Basically the XBox One will no longer:

Let you play games without the disc in the tray unless you bought the digital version
Let you share the digital version or disc version with 10 friends
Allow you to sell on your digital game licence directly to another user once you're done with the game
Have digitally priced content that actually competes with retailers

Those were all pretty good things for the sake of making sure you could connect to the internet once a day. The flip side is that the consequences of not being able to connect to the internet once a day were terrifying, even though in likelihood it would only happen a couple of times a year in my case.

MS should have sold it better, they didn't, their problem. They should have let gamers opt in to DRM if they wanted disc-less play, game sharing etc., opt out if they didn't want those benefits.

Either way, I don't share their vision of an all-in-one entertainment system, I just want a games console at a decent price and not be forced to pay extra for non-gaming entertainment add-ons that I already have elsewhere. They still haven't sold Kinect to me, and I don't think it's possible.

Well that's a good first step in their change.
But their price is still too high.....especially with the Kenect issue.

Unless they do more changes.......I think they'll lose out to Sony's PS4.

I'm thinking they might not be focusing enough on a "for gamers".
My instincts are telling me MS may be putting too much into "Entertainment System" instead of "Video Game Console". But that part's just my instincts.

What's funny is that there is no reason why the 24 hour authorization could not be optional and provide benefits to those who use it. Microsoft wants us to believe that it is an either/or scenario when the honest answer is that if they can remove the requirement then it can be entirely optional. The biggest problem was that while many of the online features sounded great, Microsoft provided no specifics on how they would work. Still, the damage has already been done and given today's outage, the players have a valid reason for not requiring an active server authorization via the Internet to play game. Had this outage occurred after the Xbox One's launch, no one would have been able to play any games on the system. That's reason enough to be concerned about having it as a mandatory requirement.

Meh, right now Im still leaning towards PS4. But the decision is shakier than it used to be. Instead of which company policies (or gamer face slap by M$) I want to support, its now: Do I want to buy the PS4 + 4 day 1 games, or Xbox One + 2 day 1 games.

Of course Im also expecting Micro$oft to release "we respond to consumers" news and announce they too will be selling the Xbox One in various packages with a cheaper model without the Kinect. Thus making me have to flip a coin to pick a system :P
