Yeah, it's kind of a two fold problem, or more. Having the kinect as part of the system makes you wonder if it's possible to just disconnect the kinect and not use it. For one, obviously having it connected means you have to mute it so it's not being used as a mic (gee, I'd rather spend the money on a mic I'd use), and the question of if it has an OFF switch for the whole thing. I don't want this camera to be always on and draining resources either.

If they don't do it as a button.......it's only a matter of time until someone releases instructions online on how to run a hard bypass using something similar to a mod chip.

If they're smart......they'll just make the entire kinect system.......optional.

I can't buy it til it's backwards compatible cause I have this Viva Pinata obsession. I will probably end up buying another old xbox and getting some more copies together to store somewhere incase I feel like gardening and beating pinatas with a stick some more.

So far it looks like we are finally moving over to a playstation eek.

And don't tell me it is not always listening, because it hears you say "HURRRR XBAWKS OOOONN!" like a spacey douchnozzle. Ridic. If they make this a separate item, I'll buy an xbone, but I care not for talking to my xbox, saying xbox on, or anything of the like. I just want a controller, there is nothing wrong with that. Plus not making me have the Kinect shaves at least 100 USD off the pricetag. Other than that if they continue being an arm of domestic spying initiatives then I am just gonna invest in a new motherboard, SSD, bigger gfx card, and 16 gigs of RAM for my desktop just so I won't have to have it. And before you say it, I have nothing to hide, but who wants it in their private space to begin with. It IS always listening, that can not be denied. Sure you can turn it off from the net now, but I want mine connected all the time. Just without that piece of crap staring at me like a fascist Wall-E.

Sounds too much like the dudes routine from 1984, waking you to annoying exercise and biometric analysis. No. Just, no.

Now for those of you that think the rebellion against the XBONE is derailing their great vision:

I'm doubtful they will ever make it backwards compatible.
It's similar to going back to the cartridge ages (I still miss them).

Of course I don't think the PS4 is backwards compatible either.........anyone got up to date info on that part?

Well that is a little different. Backwards compatibility means taking an old physical disk from a previous system, and playing it on the new system.
Like popping a PS2 disk into a PS3 and playing it off that.
