On a more serious note, that actually does look like a CTF marker, and that's my favorite game-mode being a tribes player. I only wish we had skiing/jetpacks... the terrain in Defiance seems made for it (lots of curving hills/slopes).
EDIT: I only hope it wasn't another feature cut from the game because of other problems.
So I'm not the only one who found that. Me and 2 friends were exploring outside the map and eventually found the flag. This was about a month ago. I believe its a developer tool from when they were designing the map. They just forgot to take it out. After all, they weren't expecting people like you and me to be in places like that lol.

And as for CTF. It'd be hard to play that in the middle of an ocean lol. That's all that's east of there. I think it's a boundary marker. It teleports you out when you pass it.
I doubt exploring is a violation. It's our job as gamers to explore.
