I die all the time, I feel like such a noob when there are other people doing the same mission that I am. They come in like some kind of S.W.A.T. team and kill everything, and of course the one or two mobs they leave behind end up killing me. I'm getting better the more I play, but I really don't like the fps play style so I assume I'll suck at this game forever. At least I'm having fun while I play, that's the point right?
Lift heavy, run fast, live forever.
"I swear by my pretty flower bonnet, I will end you."
"Anyone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill em right back."
"I aim to misbehave."
It's not a gaming session for me unless I die at least twenty times. Sometimes in one mission. Just recently got to both 1000 ego and San Fran. Dark Matter are obliterating me. Ditto Scrappers and Mutants. Ticks me off, but I just rez and head back to what I was doing. The game -is- addictive.
Well, it looks like I'm not the only one.
One thing I rediscovered over the weekend is "strafing". It's been so long since I played a shooter that I forgot I could do that. Made a big difference in some of the fights because you can dodge some of the long range attacks ... like those globs or whatever they are that those flying HB's throw at you.
Anyway .. still having fun dead or not.
Have you tried going at it non-solo for when applicable? I started the main arc over again a lil past 1K ego and I happened to run into a few brandy-new players and since then I been teaming with them and helping out.
strafing, situational awareness and making sure you have a full clip whenever possible. grenades and ego powers also help. also remember to use cover specially when the shield breaks (resparks are good cos they have a 3 sec delay and 40% recharge). the rest i would say are practice and trial and error. i'm pretty reasonable in co-ops but still die 2-3 times.
Im a noob and here is the problem i have with going parting up... communication is so god awful in this game. Its slow, chunky, and not at all usable in a intense battle.
However, ive been pretty lucky in that I'll come across people doing the same mission from time to time and we can work together to complete it, with out really teaming up. The Shared mission aspect one of the coolest feature i like in this FPSMMO vrs other MMOs I've played.
I'm not that great. I can't beat the final mission boss with ten guides and builds in my head and on my character. He is just beyond me.
Most of my other deaths stem from the lack of cover. If I get to cover, I'm golden. Because then I can just bottleneck enemies and they just want right into my line of fire and I'm usually able to kill them, because I saw a SAW and if they're in my face, that means I'm getting nothing but headshots on them.
I also die a lot when I'm trying to flee -to- cover. Instanced missions are the worst in this regard, I die a lot when I'm assaulting bunkers. So far that has comprised of about 3 missions or so, and they have very little cover when the larger firefights break out. It's annoying.
Here's my take.
I've been playing all sorts of games for a number of years, up to and including high-end MMO raiding. As one would expect, dying a lot is nothing new to me.
I find this game pleasantly difficult, but I do find myself dying a fair number of times to...shall we say, bullcrap?
As in, you are doing well in a mission and enemies just appear behind you (not from a regular spawn point) with grenades in hand and you have nowhere to go.
All in all I like the difficulty and for about 30-40% of my deaths I just say to myself "well that was unlucky" and just go on with my game.
I die a lot on this game and it's not our game play it's the unbalanced A:I of the mob's .
I have done the missions and when i can do one that gives me 3000 xp and i get it done very easy , then go and one that is only 1000 xp and die 5 or 6 times with the we never miss mobs then there is no balance .
So dont beat yourselves up we are not the noobs.
