I'm curious as to how çombat feels on consoles

Surprisingly smooth, man! I played FF XI on PC and was realllly worried about how a console would play it, and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm playing on PS3, and genuinely enjoyed it. I was/am impressed with how well it actually does play.

I use an xbox controller on the pc version. Works perfectly. Combat is very smooth.

BTW, When we all get in on the Open Beta, we need to choose a server that we all agree on. As well as starting city ect ect.

well i would be getting it......... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FF SERIES..... but i heard it is going to be PAY to PLAY just like FF11....... thats why i played it for about 2 MONTHS and stopped...... Hello i mean besides Sony just now starting to roll out some great games, one of the MAIN reasons ppl have PS3 and have stuck with it over the XBOX is NO MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION..... i want the game badd but someone PLEASE help me BOYCOTT that Monthly Subscription..... ITS SO STUPID..... YA KNOW ITS BAD ENOUGH WE HAVETO PAY WHATEVER THE PRICE TO BUY THE GAME...... THEN THEY HAVE TO GO AND ADD A SUB THATS WHACK THEY KEEP THIS UP AND THEY WILL DRIVE THE SERIES STRAIGHT INTO THE GROUND............. TRUE FF PLAYER OPINION

FFXIV is not like your normal console games. It has regular content streaming in all the time, and this content is free. There's no DLCs you have to pay $10-20 for each month. At most there's an expansion every other year. FFXIV is an MMORPG - this means it's a huge, online, persistent world jam packed with more features than a singleplayer game could even dream of having. So yes, you have to pay a subscription to be a part of that world. This type of game requires an ongoing maintenance and development team; the work does NOT end when the game releases, that's only the beginning. The subscription pays for the ongoing development.

They could have gone the route of "Free to Play" games which are more aptly described as "Freemium" since, while they don't have a monthly subscription, they always end up costing more than $15 a month. Freemium games either have Pay to Win options, where people pay real money to gain advantages that ruin the balance of games. Or they could lock core features of the game behind money walls, where you'd have to pay real money to unlock new Classes, Zones, etc. You should be THANKFUL to have a Subscription-based MMO, as a measly 50 cents a day ($15 a month) gives you access to ALL aspects of the game.

And you're dead wrong about subscriptions driving the game into the ground. The most popular MMORPG in history - World of Warcraft - has been using a subscription model the entire time. FFXI had a subscription, and was also very successful. Subscription-based MMOs are leagues better than "Free" games.

Besides, $15 a month is cheaper than going to see ONE 3D movie a month. If you can't afford that, then MMOs are just not for you. The fact that you say "it's bad enough we have to pay whatever the price to buy the game" makes me believe you're incredibly cheap and feel like you're entitled to free things. Oh and PS4 requires a monthly subscription, just like Xbox Live. Sucks for you, cheapskate!
