I don't think they killed her off. I think she probably had better offers or other projects conflicting. As far as movie credits go, she's one of the heaviest players (or was) in that whole show.

She always plays some Irish/English poor/middleclass grandmother in many shows and you don't really see too many of them around these days, so I think it's more of she had other things to do and probably had a clause in her contract that allowed her to be written out of the show anytime she wanted/needed to leave.

Rafe knows there's more to the mines as well, so that's two people.

Given his solid footing on the show, he's not going to be killed so unless they plan to wipe his memory he's going to start digging around in his own mines I would think.

Ben was dead unless I missed something and given a drug. Birch was controlling the agent so he must be higher up. There has to be something more working there. They have stated that the Doc is the only one left of that group so they need to bring someone back. The suicide note by the Doc for Nicki is just a coverup since she is so use to covering her tracks. The mines and whatever is down there will be turned secondary and slowly developed where the E-Rep will be more immediate as will Datar.

I don't know what the plan is but somehow they need something else as a catalyst for the Doc to turn. I am suspecting Birch returning middle season of the second season or maybe near the end to become known. It will escalate after that and Doc will have her history reviewed more. I see a multi-layered story with some plots becoming minor and then coming back later. This is what the plan seems. This video game tie-in makes them need to be flexible. Indogenes being dead like Ben and coming back is flexibility. There will be something coming back to add to that mine plot. Using a little known actor to haunt, would be a great plan although he has done a lot of great work in TO and movies previously. It might just be some great foresight.

If you're talking about when Birch injected Ben before he started his plot to poison the town, then no, he wasn't dead. He was just in a coma and given a drug that forced him out of it and nearly killed him in the process.

I wonder why the Doc hasn't been called up on the fact that a drug would be able to get Ben out of the coma so easily. I guess the almost killed him might be the reason. I will have to see those episodes over again. It makes me wonder though.

It seems interesting now that there is that device that resurrects people in the mine where Birch's body is. There is going to be a lot of stuff coming in the next season but I do think E-Republic will be the major villain for a while. Who know what will be? They did give Mr. Birch the first name of Solomon in the finale so I am not so sure we have seen the last of him.

This prediction or warning that what you give to get something sounds like it would give the writers the ability to do almost anything with anything. You have Rafe, Datar, Earth Republic and anything they drag out of that mine as some very interesting stuff. Mr. Birch was buried in that mine. I am also very curious as this is a way to get the dead Irathient back up and into mischief. It will be a whole new game. It does give me a feeling of Bab5 from the dramatic change after the first season. It seems like a total turn around with an evil Earth government getting involved.
