Captain Grant is just a foul-mouthed paper pusher

He's no badass. I have yet to see him in a firefight. He's a captain, he should be out with his troops. Its not like he's a general, colonel or even a major. He's a windbag with a bad haircut.

I'm procrastinating about fighting Nim again, can you tell?

I think he was Captain of the Stratocarrier New Freedom, since no higher ranking officer was mentioned or referenced excepting those in Manhattan, which would put him on par with a Navy Captain (equivalent to Army Colonel), rather than Army or Airforce. This said, he also leads a Ranger battalion and wears an army uniform with O-3 (army/airforce) Captain insignias.

If I'm wrong on any point, feel free to correct me.

He wears two bars, that makes him an O-3 like you said. In the navy he'd be a lieutenant. If he were captain of a carrier he'd be naval captain in rank, O-6. An O-3 could command a small vessel, maybe a tug or something, but certainly not a carrier in the navy.

I like him. He's what someone should be in a world like that; the job comes first. Even though he likes you for what you do, he has to still take the perspective from his job.

"What're you Ark hunters doing here?", first thing he says when he meets you on Angel Island. After that, then he gets personal about his son.
He's not so stubborn as to deny help either.

He's a captain, Hes also the highest ranking e-rep officer in paradise, which makes him the equivalent of a general. That is to say if the same chain of command rules still apply in the future. As far as his rank insignia goes its captain bars and his title is captain, so he's either Army or Marines. (assuming these still exist) more likely e-rep has just one military force with one set of ranks. And is that a cross on his collar? Or cross rifles? Can't tell. Maybe he's a chaplain. XD the random duty band is a nice touch...

He's infantry. That's the crossed rifle insignia.

I served in the US Air Force. Captain rank in AF = O3 ,, The Colonel of the base I served at = O6. Naval Captain Grant = O6.

With the war, lore I mean, there might not be many high ranking commanders left. Remember ... in WWII young men, both enlisted and officer, flew those bombers and fighters. One moment your in high school by the next year your a Captain with the lives of a crew and bomber in your hands.
