    What is Votan music?

What is Votan music? Does anyone have any of the Votan (Casti, Liberata..) ethnic music as a clip or a video? In the wedding, one of the Casti musicians used a cello to accompany a traditional Castithan chant. What did the Castithan use as their original instruments, similar stringed instruments? Did they use instruments at all?

Some of the tracks used in Defiance have the feel of the Votan, but are in fact by quite human artists like Nosaj Thing -Eclipse/Blue which plays when Stahma and Kenya are busy seducing each other in the Need/Want. In the festival episode, Castithan singers had more of a pop vibe than has been heard since, with Votan music generally represented by ultra-traditional themes in funerals and weddings.

So if you were a Votan DJ, what unusual, lesser known songs would you be playing to give the feel of Votan music?

This goes out to the Sensoth, the Liberata, Irathient, and the Indogene too.

I think its kind of a cross between a dirge and middle eastern music.

That blog linked above has LOTS of information about the music of Defiance. The TV Sound Track has a few Votan tracks, though many of them are hybrid human/Votan music schools (Ritual of Perpetual Motion and Besásh for example). Kinda like if the Votan turned up and went "This human music sounds interesting! I'm going to try copy it!" - No doubt it went the other way too... The blog even goes into explaining why Castithan dance slow.

Nice! I was just gonna point out the music from the Armistice celebration in the first episode, but that's likely covered in the blog. I'll have to check it out!
